I recently tagged along with photographer, Jonathan Timmes, to shoot a behind the scenes video of his editorial photo shoot for Web MD Magazine. Jonathan is a Washington, DC based photographer who specializes in food and portrait photography for both commercial and editorial purposes.
For this shoot Jonathan was tasked to create portraits for a story about Daniel Collins, an avid fencer, and the positive impact fencing has had on his life. Daniel was kind enough to explain some of the intricacies of the sport, so it was great to learn some things about a sport that I was quite unfamiliar with.
I decided to use black and white because of the mix of various uncontrollable light sources of vastly different color temperatures. Also the contrast between the black and white and still images helps emphasize Jonathan’s final images.
